Interested in Invisalign in Elm Grove? Here are a few things you may want to know before you get this orthodontic treatment at Honest Teeth.

1. You Need To Wear Your Aligners For 20-22+ Hours Per Day

The more you wear your aligners, the more effective they’ll be, so be diligent about wearing them.

2. You Can’t Eat And Can Only Drink Water While Wearing Your Aligners

You should only drink tap water while wearing aligners. Don’t eat or chew anything else without taking them out!

3. Your Mouth May Water A Lot When You Start Wearing Aligners

As your mouth gets used to the presence of your aligners, saliva production will go back to normal.

4. You’ll Feel Discomfort For A Day Or Two When Switching To New Aligners

You can take ibuprofen, drink cold water, and avoid hard or tough foods to deal with this issue and stay comfortable.

5. You Might Need Invisalign Attachments

These are little “buttons” that attach to your teeth to help your aligners get a firmer grip and move your teeth more effectively.

6. You May Have A Slight Lisp As You Get Used To Your Aligners

At first, you’ll notice a slight lisp when you wear your aligners. As you get used to wearing them, though, this will go away.

7. You Need To Rinse Out Your Aligners Whenever You Take Them Out

This helps reduce bacteria buildup and keeps your breath fresh, so rinse them whenever you take them out to eat or drink, or to brush and floss.

8. Proper Oral Hygiene Is Really Important

Brush 2-3 times per day for 2 minutes and continue to floss once a day to keep your mouth healthy.

9. Invisalign Is A Bit More Expensive Than Braces

While the benefits are worth it, Invisalign tends to be more expensive than traditional braces.

10. Your Aligners Really Will Be Invisible

It may not feel like it at first, but it’s true! Nobody will notice your aligners while you’re wearing them.

11. Snacking Is A No-Go

Since you have to remove your aligners and clean them every time you eat, snacking quickly becomes a thing of the past during your Invisalign treatment.

12. You’ll Need A Retainer After Treatment

This retainer will keep your teeth in place and keep them straight after your Invisalign treatment ends.

13. Dentist Visits Take No Time At All

You’ll need to see a dentist for a 15 minute checkup about every 4-8 weeks. That’s it!

14. You’ll Have Morning Breath

Bacteria build up in your mouth and your aligners overnight, leading to stinky breath. Brush your teeth and clean your aligners in the morning to reduce this issue!

15. Invisalign Isn’t Right For Everyone

Some orthodontic issues are too severe for Invisalign treatment, and may require you to get traditional metal braces instead.
